Even if you're not a fan of the Wachowski's big-screen follow up to the Matrix trilogy, which you're probably not, it has to be recognised for its spectacular visuals. Full of bright colours and ridiculous racing sequences, Speed Racer looks like The Fast And The Furious on LSD, and that's meant as a compliment. Back in 2008 there was talk of a sequel but, six years on, the project (if it ever got that far) seems to have completely died. Fair enough, Speed Racer didn't do too well at the cinema, but it's not like Emile Hirsch is doing much on screen at the moment, and his career might do well from people taking a look back to one of his more blockbuster-y films. The Wachowskis are reportedly releasing their new film, sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending, in 3D, so they're clearly open to the format (which, as I said earlier, would do wonders for the Matrix trilogy). There is little chance that Speed Racer 3D will become a reality, but it would look incredible if it did. With its spectacular races and, well, everything else, it's already one of the best-looking Blu-rays out there. So, if nothing else, it can be awed at on 3D-converting BD players.
I'm a British filmmaker (or, at least, trying to be) and about to graduate with a Film Studies degree. Most of the time I should spend working is actually on Netflix so I obviously have loads of life experience to share with you lovely people.
