Danny Boyle's only journey into space was beautiful. Unfortunately under-appreciated , and rightfully accused of 'borrowing' the formula of Paul W.S. Anderson's 1997 film Event Horizon, Sunshine includes some amazing imagery of our nearest star, as well as a beautiful-but-kind-of-realistic-and-not-shiny-like-Star-Trek spaceship, all of which would look spectacular in 3D. And were Sunshine released today, it would benefit greatly from its now-better-known stars Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception), Chris Pine (Captain America) and Rose Byrne (X-Men: First Class, Bridesmaids), as well as Boyle himself, who gained so much recognition for Slumdog Millionaire and the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, giving it a much better chance with audiences across the world. But Boyle hates 3D, having called it "a phase", and openly saying "I hate going to 3D movies" so, although it would look great, don't expect this one to happen. One of his main reasons, though, is wearing 3D glasses over his normal glasses. And now cinemas seem to have started to stock 3D clip-ons (usefully rehashing the horrible phase of clip-on sunglasses), so hopefully he'll reconsider. But don't hold your breath.
I'm a British filmmaker (or, at least, trying to be) and about to graduate with a Film Studies degree. Most of the time I should spend working is actually on Netflix so I obviously have loads of life experience to share with you lovely people.
