12 Acclaimed Recent Movies Everyone Will Eventually Hate

7. Kong: Skull Island

The Acclaim: Kong's new blockbuster was broadly acclaimed for its visual style, compelling ensemble cast, humour and action sequences...for some reason.

Why Everyone Will Hate It: It's pretty inexplicable that this thoroughly mediocre monster movie has an impressive 76% on Rotten Tomatoes, considering that it's actually an immensely bland tentpole film that's totally forgettable for the most part.

Aside from John C. Reilly's performance, there's little here to savour, with flat, uninteresting characters, mediocre visual effects and an over-eager effort to kickstart the so-called MonsterVerse.

The film wasn't even hugely embraced by fans upon release, so it's just a matter of time before the general reception becomes even more opposed to the baffling critical response.
