12 Acclaimed Recent Movies Everyone Will Eventually Hate
6. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
The Acclaim: Despite a lot of pre-release worry about the film's storied post-production history, the long-awaited Star Wars prequel received consistent praise for its style, performances, action sequences, musical score and more "ambitious" tone.
Why Everyone Will Hate It: There's a good chance you enjoyed Rogue One the first time you saw it, high on fanboy hope with a mouth full of popcorn at the cinema, but if you've rewatched it since, you probably liked it a lot less.
This is a film rife with issues, from its flat characters to its rushed pace, poor CGI recreations of Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia and the fact it's clearly been spliced into oblivion in the edit bay.
Worst of all it fails to muster the emotion you might hope for, especially considering its dark ending, and feels like yet another safe, overly sanitisied studio blockbuster in wider service of a cinematic universe.
A lot of people already hate the movie and what it represents, and that only seems likely to become even more apparent in the coming years, especially if The Last Jedi ends up being the daring jolt in the arm the franchise desperately needs.
