12 Acclaimed Recent Movies Everyone Will Eventually Hate
5. T2 Trainspotting
The Acclaim: Danny Boyle's belated sequel was commended for ably pulling off a victory lap for the original film's iconic characters, with renewed emotional depth and stellar performances from the cast.
Why Everyone Will Hate It: Though it's hard to call T2 a bad film, the general audience response right out of the gate was decidedly more muted than critics'.
"It's OK" seemed to be the most common claim upon release, and with a little more critical distance since then, it's easier to admit the film's immensely contrived narrative, dodgy TV-esque visuals, and the disappointing near-total absence of Kelly Macdonald.
The film arrived on such a tidal wave of hype and expectation that it was inevitably always going to fall short of the mark, and while it's a fine enough nostalgia trip, it has little new to say about society and just never really convinces that it needs to exist. That alone has earned it plenty of ire from fans of the original, both casual and hardcore.
