12 Actors Joss Whedon Always Casts In His Work

2. Alexis Denisof

Now primarily known for his regular work with Joss Whedon, Alexis Denisof originally owed his casting in Buffy The Vampire Slayer to Anthony Head. Knowing that Whedon was looking for someone to play stuffy Watcher Wesley, Head suggested his old friend Denisof; though American, Denisof had worked in England for years and could pull off a believable accent. Wesley's character grew from comic relief in Buffy season three to fan-favourite by the end of Angel, which Denisof featured in all five seasons of. He later appeared in four episodes of Dollhouse, as Senator Daniel Perrin, as well as in Much Ado About Nothing as Benedick. Oh, and he was in The Avengers. Yes, it is a little known fact that the character credited as The Other - Thanos' lackey who appears at the beginning and end of the film - is actually Denisof, not that you would know it behind the mask and the modulated voice. He subsequently returned to the role for Guardians Of The Galaxy, where he sadly met his end thanks to Ronan the Accuser.
