12 Actors Joss Whedon Always Casts In His Work

1. Amy Acker

Although Whedon has a veritable army of actors he readily calls upon, the person who has played the most roles helmed by Joss Whedon is none other than Amy Acker, who has appeared as five different characters across five separate TV shows and films from the writer/director. Acker's first Whedon role is still her most famous, playing shy scientifically-minded Winifred 'Fred' Burkle in seasons two to five of Angel. As mentioned earlier, Fred's body was later possessed by ancient goddess Illyria, meaning she arguably got to play an entirely new character for Angel's last few episodes. This turned out to not be the only time Acker would play multiple characters in a Whedon production, as she also featured as Claire Saunders in Dollhouse (who turns out to actually be an imprinted personality of 'doll' Whiskey). Acker later appeared in two of the three movies Whedon made in 2012, namely Much Ado About Nothing as another Denisof love interest, Beatrice, and in The Cabin In The Woods as Lin. If you are thinking it is a shame that she wasn't in The Avengers as well that year, she did later turn up in Agents Of SHIELD as Audrey Nathan, Phil Coulson's old girlfriend and a character alluded to by Tony Stark in The Avengers.
