12 Actors Who Almost Walked Off Huge Movies (And Why)
9. Russell Crowe Refused To Play Second Fiddle - Robin Hood (2010)
There have been a few film adaptations about the legendary English thief who would steal from the rich and give to the poor, and he has always been depicted as a cunning and kind man of the people, with a knack for causing trouble and an unrivalled skill with a bow and arrow.
However in 2007, Universal Studios were planning on making a film with a new twist on the character. The film was titled Nottingham and would focus more on the Sheriff, while Robin Hood was set to play the villain role. What's more blizzard than making Robin Hood the villain was the fact that this caught Russell’s interest and he wanted to direct the film.
But before filming even began, Russel was beginning to have second thoughts about his involvement in the whole thing. It eventually came down to him threatening to leave the project altogether if it was not changed to his liking.
His dissatisfaction with the script led to Universal delaying filming and bringing in three writers to change the original script. The story was then changed to focus on Robin’s path to becoming an outlaw, with Crowe getting the lead role.
