5. Helen Mirren (Winchester)

Helen Mirren may have her fair share of critical duds to her name, but she also has a reputation for bringing gravitas, wit and class to even the rancid likes of Caligula, Red 2 and Collateral Beauty.

Proving that even a figure as inscrutable as Mirren can have an off-day, her performance in Winchester is rendered completely distracting by her laughably naff American accent, which most often sounds closer to an SNL parody than anything.

It's a shame, because on paper Mirren was perfectly cast to play the eccentric widow of the famed Winchester gunmaker, yet she delivers neither the expected campiness nor a convincing enough accent to actually make it work.

It is, for all intents and purposes, the most boring and lifeless performance she's ever given in a major Hollywood movie, and that's sad. At least this one can be easily dismissed as a one-off.
