12 Actors Who Got Drunk Or Stoned For Auditions
5. Julie Delpy - Before Sunrise
As an actor, you'd think that you might have truly treasured memories of the day you tried out for and subsequently got one of the most important roles of your entire career. But not Julie Delpy.
18 years after the release of Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise and with Before Midnight premiering at Tribeca Film Festival in 2013, she, Ethan Hawke and the director sat down to talk their journeys, including how they auditioned.
Ethan Hawke revealed that when he'd been sent the script, he thought he was being offered the role (assuming he didn't have to audition) and he told Linklater he has "a lot of problems with the script." He subsequently found out to his surprise he had to audition, but according to Julie Delpy, she has no memory of the entire time because she was drunk. "For me it’s just a big blank… but I was drinking a lot at the time.”
