12 Amazing Premises Wasted On Underwhelming Horror Films
9. Frozen (2010)
Premise: No, not that Frozen. In this high-concept, low-budget horror-thriller, three college students (Emma Bell, Shawn Ashmore and Kevin Zegers) get stranded on a ski lift and have to somehow find a way off it. If they fail, they will freeze to death.
With its terrifying premise, not to mention some very good marketing indeed, Frozen looked like a good thriller but unfortunately it founders in the end.
One of the main issues is that writer-director Adam Green failed to pull off the story in a believable way. Everything about the film's scenario feels so avoidable and the characters are constantly behaving in stupid, illogical ways, making it hard to take the film seriously.
Frozen has some tense moments and one great, genuinely shocking death scene but other than that most of it just the characters sitting on the ski lift and bickering with each other. Thanks to this, as well as the awful structure, uneven pace and Emma Bell's terrible performance, Frozen is ultimately a let-down.
