12 Amazing Premises Wasted On Underwhelming Horror Films
7. Brightburn
Premise: A couple raising an extraterrestrial child as their own discover that he has superhuman powers. Unfortunately, he isn't using them for good.
Being one of the most mainstream superhero horror movies to date, Brightburn was one of 2019's most anticipated horror films but ultimately it just blew it.
It's the kind of film you largely forget ten minutes after finishing it.'Bad Guy' by Billie EIlish, which was probably the most iconic song of last year, plays during the end credits and that's genuinely the most memorable thing about the movie.
Brightburn is little more than a deeply, deeply mediocre horror film with predictable story beats and pretty much nothing in the way of scares. Meanwhile, the over-powered villain means there's little suspense either.
It's unfortunate that James Gunn was only the producer. If he'd written or directed this it's likely Brightburn wouldn't have been quite so aggressively forgettable.
