12 Anticipated 2015 Movies That Have Already Lost The Oscar Race
10. Legend
The Hype: Tom Hardy takes the dual role of legendary East End gangster twins Reggie and Ronnie Kray, in a movie written and directed by Brian Helgeland, who previously won an Oscar for writing the terrific L.A. Confidential and was most recently nominated for adapting Mystic River to the screen. Why It's Lost The Oscar Race: The film has already been released in the UK despite not bowing for a qualifying awards run in the US until November, and though Hardy's volcanic performance has been almost universally praised so far, the consensus is that Legend is an overly conventional gangster flick which rattles off the cliches like its life depends on it. Hardy seemed like a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination when the first trailer was released (but as which character?), yet sadly Helgeland's disappointingly run of the mill script has totally scuppered that.
