Essentially sharing its premise with A Quiet Place, the far more effectively realized 2018 effort from director John Krasinski, Netflix effort The Silence is a classic case of “We have a sound sensitive monster movie at home”.

Despite starring the likes of Mad Men’s Kiernan Shipka and the always formidable Stanley Tucci, the flick is slow and uninteresting, proving unable to generate much more than some unintentional laughs throughout its runtime.

Despite this, the lithe little winged demons which constitute the film’s antagonists are fantastic creations, crossing Jurassic Park: The Lost World’s Peter Stormare-eating chicken-sized dinos with bats to create a superb, if tragically also utterly wasted, movie monster.
