12 Awesome Horror Movie Monsters We Didn't Get Enough Of

2. The Sea Monster - Deep Rising

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
Buena Vista Pictures

There’s not a lot wrong with The Mummy director Stephen Sommers’ underrated sci-fi action horror hybrid Deep Rising, despite many critics’ insistence to the contrary.

With a more effective antagonist than the similarly plotted Deep Blue Sea and a charming cast of rogues and rebels, this tale of salvagers journeying into a wrecked ocean liner only to uncover a deep-sea monster in its depths is an undeniably effective and fun monster movie—with one glaring flaw.

Thanks to the limitations of nineties CGI, we only get a few sparse glimpses at the antagonist in all its oversized glory, a criminal underutilization of a beast which remains one of sci-fi horror’s scariest monsters.
