It’s a rare thing to hear “this movie needed less Matthew Lillard”, but the living (at least, for a while) cast of noughties horror remake 13 Ghosts are given far too much screen time given how chilling their underutilized foes are.

Despite gaining pride of place in the film’s title, the eponymous 13 ghosts are scarcely seen in this epileptic-unfriendly film whose lightning-quick cuts render it impossible to get a good look at the antagonists unless the viewer is a dab hand with the pause button.

Each horrifying ghost has a backstory and a unique, disturbing design—but you’d never know that without delving into this overstuffed flick’s making of, as the movie foolishly focuses its limited runtime elsewhere.
