Another Stan Winston designed monster, The Relic’s monster is a great beast stuck in a middling movie.

Mostly a slow burn mystery about “what’s eating the inhabitants of a New York museum”, this flick eventually answers this pressing question with the more than a little predictable “that giant monster which we brought inside a few weeks ago”, and thus we finally get a good look at the terrifying monstrosity.

The massive Kothoga may feature elements from all sorts of real life animals, but its chilling design manages to be both recognizable and utterly alien at once—making it even more of a shame that we barely get to glimpse the thing before it goes up in flames at the close of this underwritten flick.
