12 Awesome Horror Movie Monsters We Didn't Get Enough Of

8. The Monster - Leviathan

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
MGM

Another underwater horror effort, Leviathan is a sci-fi hybrid from 1989, released shortly after James Cameron’s The Abyss hit cinemas but owing more to the likes of Aliens and The Thing.

Directed by pulp hero/ Rambo First Blood Part II filmmaker George P Cosmatos, this violent and tense body horror thriller sees the small crew of a submarine attacked and infiltrated by some sort of rapidly mutating parasite whose fully grown, Stan Winston-designed monstrous form must be seen to be believed.

Unfortunately, it’s barely seen before being blown to bits by our heroes. We understand the threat, but maybe just give us a few more broad daylight glances at this monster before pulling the trigger next time, yeah?
