This one barely even counts, and not because as some horror snobs will try to tell you “the real villain of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary is hubris in the face of grief”.

No, the almost entirely unseen wendigo which haunts the titular burial ground barely counts for the purposes of this list because he (or she) is a monster that isn’t even glimpsed in the original film and is barely seen at all in 2019’s middling remake.

But the wendigo is there amongst the trees for one lone short shot, and as such we think it’s fair to say that this terrifying entity derived from native American folklore earned a far better showing than one lame, out of focus background appearance.
