12 Awesome Performances In Otherwise Awful 2016 Movies

Let’s be honest: rabid fanboy opinion aside, Suicide Squad wasn’t really all it was cracked up to be. Though it’s been hyped for years and more recently boosted by rumours of new Joker Jared Leto’s getting into character by sending dead pigs and anal beads to his fellow cast members, the film fell flat with a muddled plotline, sloppy editing and badly fleshed out characters. But for all its problems many critics, a good number of them male critics funnily enough, praised rising star Margot Robbie’s turn as deranged former psychiatrist turned baseball bat swinging anti-hero Harley Quinn.

While no doubt some of them were merely more then taken with the stunning Robbie wandering around in the tiniest of hot pants for much of the movie, she did give a truly enjoyable performance as the unhinged villain. Admittedly, the character of Harley Quinn isn’t without problem either. The movie incarnation of her has rightfully been criticised as overtly sexualised and, in her relationship with The Joker, as glorifying abuse but in an otherwise lacklustre film, Robbie certainly shines in the role.
