12 Awesome Summer 2018 Movies You Probably Missed

4. Revenge

Revenge Matilda Lutz
Neon

One of the best-constructed rape-revenge films of all time, Revenge is a perfect storm of eye-watering visuals, a courageous Matilda Lutz performance, a wealth of ultra-violence and a distinctly feminist subversion from writer-director Coralie Fargeat.

What begins as a seemingly conventional B-movie progressively transforms into something smarter as protagonist Jennifer (Lutz) turns the tables on her aggressors and defies the expectations of her seemingly vapid, gorgeous exterior.

Tonally perfect, surprisingly hilarious in parts, disarmingly surreal and appropriately revolting, Revenge is a near-masterpiece of the genre and well worth it for those with stomachs strong enough.

Considering that Lutz was best known for starring in the atrocious horror reboot Rings prior to this, it's certainly a startling jolt for her career.
