12 Awesome Villains In Otherwise Terrible Movies
2. David - Alien: Covenant
Alien: Covenant should have been a lot better. The trailers suggested a traditional Alien horror movie consciously seeking nostalgia as a launch-point and a move away from the beligerent vagueness of Prometheus. Hell, it actively promised answers for that film's conundrums and pulled an almighty switcheroo.
The story centres on the creation of the Xenomorphs and is so muddled it's enough to scramble even the most stubborn of grey matter. It's also way too thin on either innovation or excitement and aside from a few good moments, it adds very little to the Alien franchise.
What it does get right, however, is Michael Fassbender's David, a handsome Hal 9000 playing God whose deadly curiosity is as intoxicating as the rest of the film is infuriating. He's creepy, disquietening and cunning, and you almost wish Ridley Scott had just made a film about him.
