12 Awful Films MCU Actors Want You To Forget
9. Josh Brolin - Jonah Hex
We can all agree that, as super-supervillain and jacked sentient grapefruit Thanos, No Country for Old Men star Josh Brolin balanced camp and gravitas fairly flawlessly. The actor made the potentially laughable figure not only believable and effectively scary, but genuinely sympathetic to boot, and his appearances offered the Avengers their most impressively well-rounded onscreen nemesis. It’s no wonder the actor went on to appear in further comic adaptations, cropping up as Deadpool’s enemy/ partner Cable in 2018’s Deadpool 2.
However, Brolin hasn’t always had such good luck picking parts from comic book inspired properties. In 2008 the grizzled actor put his Western experience to what seemed like good use in the would-be blockbusterJonah Hex, playing the eponymous half-faced antihero bounty hunter lead in the film scripted by Crank creators Neveldine/Taylor.
Unfortunately the flick’s directorial duties went toJimmy Hayward of, er, Horton Hears A Who fame, and the resulting film was a disastrous tonally inconsistent flop. Reviled by critics, it bombed at the box office, and remains the largest black mark on both Brolin and his co-star Megan Fox’s uneven CVs.
