The Desired Effect: J Edgar Hoover. Obviously. The Actual Effect: Philip Seymour Hoffman. It is perhaps a little cruel to call this bad make-up, since the actual prosthetics themselves are good, and they've done a very good job of making Leo DiCaprio look nothing like Leo DiCaprio. The only problem is, they seem to have turned him into Philip Seymour Hoffman, which is an incredibly distracting revelation, particularly when you know what the real J Edgar Hoover looked like. Hint: It was nothing like Philip Seymour Hoffman.
