12 AWFUL Sequels That Made More Money Than Blade Runner 2049

3. Sex & The City 2

Widely regarded as one of the worst and most misguided movie sequels of the 21st century, Sex and the City 2 managed to more-than-triple its $95 million budget, though fell rather short of the far better first film's $415.2 million total.

Though this excessive sequel could've settled for being a mediocre victory lap for fans, it decidedly to actively aggravate its audience by clocking in at an abusively overlong 146 minutes (granted, still 17 minutes shorter than Blade Runner 2049) and featuring some depictions of Middle-Eastern women that were dubious at best, if not flat-out racist.

Only the most hardcore SATC fans need apply, though it shouldn't be too shocking that a pandering entry into a hit franchise aimed largely at women, which often resulted in their spouses being dragged along, had more commercial viability than a near-three-hour sci-fi tone poem sequel to a 35-year-old movie.
