12 AWFUL Sequels That Made More Money Than Blade Runner 2049
6. Alice Through The Looking Glass
Box Office: $299.5 million
For all intents and purposes, the second Alice movie is one of the most catastrophic bombs in recent box office memory, grossing just 29.2% of the first film's $1.025 billion haul, an historically embarrassing drop for a sequel.
However, Blade Runner 2049 still isn't going to surpass it when it's all said and done. Even though both movies cost around the same budget, Alice Through the Looking Glass is otherwise its polar opposite: a creatively bankrupt sequel few people asked for that failed to make especially compelling use of cutting-edge visual effects.
Audiences had long grown tired of Johnny Depp's shtick by this point, and apart from Sacha Baron Cohen's barmy performance as Time, there was very little here that stuck in the mind once the credits rolled.
