After Avengers Assemble, the sequel three years and four other MCU movies later, had a lot to live up to. Unfortunately, Age of Ultron couldn’t live up to expectations. The forced narrative between Natasha and Bruce, the struggle to balance all the characters, and a disappointing Ultron himself all led to the only underwhelming Avengers movie so far.

The final battle saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes take on the villain and his army of droids in a similar way to how they battled the cannon fodder that was the Chitauri in 2012.

It wasn’t exactly mind blowing, but there something in the script at one stage, and visualised in the movie’s concept art, that would have taken the final battle up a step or two. Combining over a thousand of his robot warriors, Ultron would have built himself into a huge, Mega Ultron to take on the Avengers. Specifically the Hulk.

Aesthetically this would have been nothing short of incredible, and would have given a different dimension to the conclusion of the movie. Maybe Ultron’s only appearance in the MCU would be looked back on more fondly today if he had become this awesome, villainous mirror image of Giant Man.
