12 Bafflingly High 2017 IMDB Scores You Will Not Believe

3. The Glass Castle (7.2)

The Glass Castle Woody Harrelson
Lionsgate

Like The Book of Henry, The Glass Castle was an Oscar-hyped prestige movie starring Naomi Watts...which fell off most people's radars once the reviews indicated it wasn't up to much.

Whether it's the usually reliable Woody Harrelson and Brie Larson delivering performances alternately over-the-top and dull, or director Destin Daniel Cretton's unexpectedly melodramatic approach to the material, this has all the ick of a toothless Lifetime movie, and none of the unintentional entertainment value.

Again, general audiences are extremely forgiving of overwrought stories based on books and real events, so this one scoring well isn't terribly surprising. 7.2, though? Jeez.

The Score It Deserves: The execution, performances and basic grasp on tone are all bad enough that we can strip a third of its score away, and then a little extra more on general principle. 4.5.
