12 Bafflingly High 2017 IMDB Scores You Will Not Believe

6. A Dog's Purpose (6.9)

A Dog S Purpose Dennis Quaid
Universal Pictures

The folks running DoesTheDogDie.com no doubt had a fit when they found out about A Dog's Purpose, a film where a dog's soul is reincarnated into a new canine every time he dies. The dog dies. A lot.

Cue a shamelessly manipulative weepie that's directed by Lasse Hallstrom with all the enthusiasm of a Movie of the Week, intended to appeal to aunties and grandmas the world over, but with little to offer beyond a conveyor belt of cute dogs (who inevitably all meet an upsetting end).

Clearly, it was well-received by the generic public because a lot of people conflate a movie that makes them cry with good cinema, even though that's often not the case at all.

The Score It Deserves: The dogs deserve some love here, but the utter absurdity of the premise and its execution gives it a 4.3, which is much closer to the critical average of 4.8.
