12 Bafflingly High 2018 IMDB Scores You Will Not Believe

5. Venom (6.8)

You need only look at the $850+ million box office for Venom to see that paying audiences enjoyed it so much more than critics, who largely dismissed it as a formulaic, uninspired dud and gave it a mere 4.4 average score.

Is Venom an irredeemably awful film? No, but it does feel like a product of the early 2000s somehow kept on a studio shelf for over a decade and finally dumped in cinemas late last year.

Tom Hardy gives it his all and Venom's new design is certainly an improvement over his repulsive look in Spider-Man 3, but it just feels too familiar, too bland and too damn safe all things considered.

The Score It Deserves: Splitting the difference between audiences and critics would bring the score closer to a 5.0.

It's a down-the-line movie that's nowhere close to good, but is saved from a lower score by Hardy's go-for-broke performance.
