Not many comedians would dare make fun of terrorism, with the topic often considered to be a no go area.

Amazingly, Four Lions managed to not only make terrorism, jihadists, and radicalism absolutely hilarious but they also somehow got away with it, just about.

The movie focusses on four young British Muslim men who all decide to become suicide bombers intent on blowing up the London Marathon. Upon its release, audiences and critics alike didn't understand the point. It was clear that the world wasn't ready for a joke on terrorism, especially one that was so on the nose.

Four Lions was clever in that it was an attempt to figure out what the "War on Terror" really meant and the implications that it had (and still has) on the Muslim community. The movie was a way to point out the elephant in the room, the old age technique of making fun of something before anybody else gets the chance to.

Thankfully, as time passes, more and more people are allowing themselves to watch it, understand it, and more importantly, laugh at it, but it might be a while until we get a Four Lions 2.
