Batman Returns is one of the most polarizing superhero films amongst comic book enthusiasts. Its characterization of Catwoman is one of the major sticking points. On a mainstream level, however, Michelle Pfeiffers portrayal of the character reached iconic status, starting with her entrance. With a touch of crazy in her eye, which was new for the character, Pfeiffers Catwoman strikes more modern, but still familiar chords as she turns a department store into her own personal playground. Security guards dont know whether to, open fire or fall in love, making it easy for Catwoman to use her sexuality against them. The entrance gets even better as it extends into an introduction between Catwoman and the films other two main characters, Batman and Penguin. It really doesnt get much better than a simple Meow followed by a massive explosion.
