12 Best Movies Starring The Simpsons Actors

3. The Truman Show

Hank Azaria Mystery Men
Paramount

The first of two entries on this list from the legendary Harry Shearer, the veteran actor portraying an important role as the TV host of a daily show exploring the days events in the life of Truman Burbank. Shearer nails the role of the kiss ass host, his interview with Ed Harris' Christoff displaying what a damn fine and under utilised actor he is.

For those who somehow missed this classic, the film centres around the daily routine of loveable Truman Burbank, whose life is not as he thinks it is. Truman is literally the centre of his own universe, a 24 hour TV show displaying his every action captivating the world. The film concentrates on Truman's journey to discovery, slowly putting the pieces together that his life is actually a fake, even if he is not.

Jim Carrey is superb in the title role, his natural energy and hyper over-exaggerated acting style perfectly suited for the role of Truman. The framing of each shot is extremely clever, adding to the feel that we are voyeurs equally as guilty of prying as any of the viewers we see watching the fictional show.

The ending is extremely uplifting while also having a slightly sad tinge, the audience knowing that the sheltered life Truman had enjoyed would never be the same again
