12 Best Movies Starring The Simpsons Actors

9. Three Amigos

Hank Azaria Mystery Men

This entertaining 80's romp doesn't exactly maintain its early momentum throughout its runtime, but the fun to be had in the first half of the film excuses the largely forgettable finale. Steve Martin and Martin Short give it their usual energetic performances here to keep the laughs coming, while a subdued Chevy Chase tones his comic talents down for the family friendly film.

The premise is an absolute hoot, with three actors famous for playing singing bandits The Three Amigos during the silent movie era finding themselves in actual combat. After being fired from their job, they are recruited by Mexican townsfolk who need saving from real life Mexican bandits. The problem is that the actors believe it is just another acting gig.

The song and dance numbers from the heroic trio that appears to stave off the evil bandits are bloody funny, and it's a shame the film doesn't stick to this premise a little longer. The second half seems more pandered for family friendly fare, which is watchable enough without ever hitting the heights of the first act.

An early scene in the movie features three voice actors from The Simpsons, playing Film executive Harry Flugleman and his two associates. Joe Mantegna, the voice of Fat Tony, plays Flugelman, while the voices for Artie Biff and Troy McLure respectively, Jon Lovitz and Phil Hartman, play the associates. The scene is hilarious watching now, especially with their Simpsons characters clearly present in their characterisations.
