12 Best Movies Starring The Simpsons Actors
7. As Good As It Gets
The first entry in this list to star Yeardley Smith, the actor who has brought Lisa Simpson to life over The Simpsons 30 year tenure. Smith plays the friend of gay artist Simon Bishop, played with real passion by Greg Kinnear, who tries to assist her friend after he is brutally attacked in a robbery of his apartment.
The film though belongs to Jack Nicholson, whose misanthropic, obsessive-compulsive best selling author Melvin Udall learns to more adequately relate with others and act more like a human being. The self obsessed protagonist makes an unexpected connection with Simon, railroaded to look after his dog as he recovers from his bashing. Melvin also strikes up an intimate relationship with his favourite Waitress Carol, played to perfection by Helen Hunt in career best form.
The film garners a lot of laughs from Melvin's array of politically incorrect statements, but thankfully Director James Brooks never forgets to show the hurt his comments have on others. There is also a strong message about looking past the cover to see the person that lays inside, even when that person does their utmost to make themselves look as awful a human being as possible.
An impossible film to place in a single genre, this is one flick that deserves all the plaudits it received.
