12 Biggest Box Office Flops Of 2017 (So Far)
9. CHiPs
The original CHiPs was a popular TV show starring Eric Estrada
focusing on two California Highway Patrol officers that kicked off in the late
1970s and ran for a total of six seasons. The big screen adaptation of CHiPs –
directed, written by and starring Dax Shepard who hasn’t been in a good movie
since 2006’s Idiocracy – however falls way short of the mark set by its source
material back in the day.
Abysmally unfunny and devoid of anything beyond the most generic of plots, not even an Erik Estrada cameo could save the movie which pulled in a woeful $25.5 million against a production budget of $25 million.
Estrada’s original CHiPs co-star Larry Wilcox was conspicuously absent from proceedings but did say of the movie that “It looks like Dumb and Dumber on motorcycles”, which isn’t too far from the truth, so it’s probably safe to say that he’s rather relieved he wasn’t include in CHiPs after all.
