12 Biggest Genuine Shocks In MCU History

4. Thor Went For The Head

Avengers: Infinity War, though named for the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, was undoubtedly Thanos’ movie. He was the character with the most screen time, he was weirdly the heart of the movie for a time, and at the end of the day he was victorious.

The movie closed with the ominous image of the Mad Titan sitting back and watching the sun rise over a grateful universe. The trailers for Endgame however barely even acknowledged his existence, outside of showing the image of his armour as something of a scarecrow pulled straight from the pages of the comics.

Quite how Thanos would fit into proceedings in the fourth Avengers movie was unclear, but it was certain he would have a role to play. That is why it was so surprising when Thor, seemingly out of nowhere in the middle of a conversation decapitated the being that killed half of all living things.

Of course, Thanos would ultimately return for much of the movie, but as a past version of himself from 2014. The Thanos that the Russo brothers succeeded in turning into this generation’s Darth Vader saw his end in the blink of an eye at the mercy of Stormbreaker and the God that wielded it.
