12 Biggest Lies In Harry Potter We All Accept

9. Dumbledore Is A Great Mentor

Dumbledore Mentor
Warner Bros.

We’re told throughout the novels that the kindly grandfather figure of Dumbledore, a wise old sage of a headmaster who is intended to act as Harry’s mentor, is a superb fit for the role, and the character is universally beloved throughout wizardom.

To which we say, who exactly oversaw the hiring of the aforementioned possessed Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher? Who repeatedly took on a string of teachers each of whom transpired to be some form of danger toward their students? Hell, forget Defence Against the Dark Arts entirely, why did he hire Severus Snape, who makes a point of bullying his child charges, including mocking the Weasley’s generational poverty?

Why does Dumbledore let teachers host detention for freshman in the forbidden forest? Why didn’t he inform Harry about his plan to sacrifice himself at the end of The Half Blood Prince and save our hero a lot of heartache? Why did he let Harry suffer a horrible home life for over a decade before coming to collect him in time for school?

Yeah, we’re calling BS on these adoring obituaries—remember this flawed fellow as he was in life.
