The Truth
Whatever way you look at it, Obi-Wan was f*cking with Luke Skywalker a lot in A New Hope. You can put that down to George Lucas changing the goal-posts or Kenobi being purposefully obtuse, but he was a damn dirty liar, particularly when needlessly claiming he hadn't been called Obi-Wan since before Luke was born.
Except he plainly changed his name after Luke and Leia were born. It's also unlikely Qui-Gon didn't call him by his name during their contact while he was in hiding (he frequently called him Obi-Wan rather than something like "Master Kenobi" in conversation, so there's no reason to believe he'd suddenly go more formal after his death).
To be honest, a lot of what Kenobi says in A New Hope can be pegged as lies in hindsight: he owned droids (not just R2-D2 and C-3PO but also an astromech), he wasn't a "Jedi Knight the same as your father" because Anakin never was - not fully. And the Sandpeople weren't back in greater numbers. Not that we know of anyway.
