10. Ewan McGregor Continues The Shining's Legacy In Doctor Sleep
Mike Flannigan has directed Steven King adaptation Gerald’s Game and horror gems Oculus, Ouija: Origin of Evil, plus Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House; next he’ll stick with the master of horror and adapt King’s The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep. Ewan McGregor will play an adult Danny Torrance.
The Wrap noted that many details are still under lock and key, but that Danny is, “still struggling with the trauma stemming from the events of his childhood.” Makes sense as his time in the Overlook Hotel being labeled traumatizing is the understatement of a lifetime.
“As a child he went through a terrible experience, and he’s trying to figure out how he’s going to deal with this Shine,” McGregor told audiences through a video featurette. The Wrap notes that The Shining’s theme music and a shot of a mirror etched with “REDRUM” fleshed out the chilling footage.
The Shining Sequel will hit theatres November 8, 2019.
