Pretty much the single most pertinent question related to Christopher Nolan's trilogy ending The Dark Knight Rises concerns the small but annoyingly pressing issue of how Bruce Wayne got back into a sieged Gotham without the use of any of his Bat-tech. The favoured answer of most fans is that he's Batman, and Batman can do as he bloody well pleases, but that's not enough.

The key thing to remember here is that Bane effectively drops Bruce into a hole and throws away the hole: if he thought for one minute Batman could merely walk back to the city between scenes, he would probably have done something about it.

So while there are theories propagated by fans that suggest solutions from outside of the film's own lore, none of it sufficiently explains how he got from the Pit to the outskirts of Gotham with no money, no tech and no hope. And the fact that none of that was enough to stop him just made Bane's oversight look catastrophic to him as a supposedly great, intellectual villain.
