Taking the crown for weirdest and most WTF scene of the year, however, goes to the totally unexpected cameo from The Backstreet Boys at the conclusion of the brilliant This Is the End. As the protagonists (playing caricatures of themselves) finally arrive at the Pearly Gates, Jay Baruchel conjures the boy-band into existence, and they perform a rousing rendition of Everybody (Backstreet's Back), kitted out in slick white duds while everyone in heaven parties to play us out. This Is the End is one of those movies that just gets crazier and crazier the longer it goes on, and after making us sit through The Exorcism of Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum dressed as a gimp, and James Franco getting eaten by cannibals, I suppose the only logical end-point was a cameo from the world's most famous boy band.
