12 Cancelled Sci-Fi Moves We Wish We Could Have Seen
2. Night Skies
Before Steven Spielberg went on to
direct everyone’s favourite extra-terrestrial in 1982’s E.T, the famous
director initially considered this dark sci-fi horror, a Signs-style story of aliens
carving up a family farm’s livestock and laying siege to their remote home. What
would go on to become E.T began as a subplot from this unrealized script, as one
of the family’s kids would bond with a stray alien despite their feuding families.
Unfortunately despite the similarities to Shyamalan’s film and the reuse of some scenes in the Spielberg-produced Tobe Hooper horror Poltergeist, Night Skies was never officially produced and as such we never got to see its incredible alien designs in action, commissioned for the film from make-up genius Rick Baker hot off the success of his career best work in An American Werewolf in London.
