12 Cancelled Sci-Fi Moves We Wish We Could Have Seen
10. Batman Vs Godzilla
Yes, you read that right—Japan’s
favourite giant monster/ nuclear war allegory and Gotham’s finest were once intended
to face off onscreen, although unfortunately it wasn’t Roland Emmerich’s disastrous
late nineties Godzilla and Joel Schumacher’s equally regrettable iteration of
the caped crusader.
No, this was back in the sixties when Adam West’s campy iteration of the character ruled the small screen and Godzilla was best known in his native country for a string of successful theatrical releases. It’s a shame, because Batfleck could definitely have taken down Gareth Edward’s 2014 Godzilla, and both had the moody self-seriousness to match each other.
However, the film never came together despite the two over-the-top sixties franchises also having pretty harmonious high-camp tones, although infamous Bat-villain Cesar Romero did appear as the baddie in Latitude Zero, a monster movie which features no kaiju but is otherwise affiliated with the sprawling franchise’s many instalments.
