12 Castings For New Movies That Prove Hollywood Has Gone Insane
6. Jack Black - Goosebumps
There was a time - many years ago now - when Jack Black was a bankable comic actor, mostly when he was playing in restrained comedies that took advantage of his charisma, rather than relying on physical comedy. Or just endlessly trotting out the idea that he was an unconventional shape or something similarly distasteful.
Sadly, that just doesn't happen any more, and despite the success of his return to indie films with Bernie in 2011, he's done very little to suggest that would be a long-term development.
The decision to cast him in Rob Letterman's Goosebumps is even more baffling considering the fact that the two have previous, on Gulliver's Travels, which was exactly the kind of awful comedic dross that Black should be swerving. If Goosebumps isn't of similar quality, it will be astounding.
Will It Work?
Don't count on it.
It's hard not to imagine he'll spend Goosebumps mugging and playing up to the expectations that tend to come with supposedly more accessible comedies (like Gulliver's Travels)
