12 Comic Book Film Adaptations Stuck In Development Hell

8. Powers

As fans of the comic will already know, Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers actually made it to a pilot starring Jason Patric and Lucy Punch in 2011. Very little footage exists of the failed pilot, but after increased delays, reshoots that were attributed to "tone and clarity" by Bendis himself, were eventually scrapped to allow for a completely new approach to the material. The property was actually first optioned for film development by Sony way back in 2001, before ending up at FX in a joint production deal with Sony in 2009. Given its roots in Bendis' love of the police procedural drama, an FX series seemed like the ideal platform for the Powers story to be told. The show remained in development at FX until it was announced in March 2014 that Powers would become the first original series to stream via the Playstation Network exclusively to Playstation consoles. Given Sony's long-standing attachment to the project, there is reason to be optimistic that this news will finally see Powers brought to life.
