12 Comic Book Movie Moments That Ignored The Script
7. Robert Downey Jr’s Food Preoccupation In The Avengers
After practically ad-libbing the entirety of Iron Man alongside Jeff Bridges, when Robert Downey Jr returned to the role of Tony Stark for a third time in The Avengers he clearly felt at ease taking liberties with director and screenwriter Joss Whedon’s script and, funnily enough, many of the actor’s improvised moments centred around the munchies.
During filming, Downey Jr developed a habit of hiding various snacks around the set to nibble on in between takes and in a particularly peckish mood began munching mid-action resulting in an improvised scene in which Tony Stark offers Bruce Banner a blueberry (which thankfully Mark Ruffalo played along with).
The Avengers post-credit scene, in which the elite team of superheroes enjoy a spot of shawarma, actually stemmed from a line ad-libbed by Downey Jr earlier in the film following its big, climactic fight scene. A good move for the film and a good thing for shawarma joints across America who reported skyrocketing sales in the days after The Avengers release.
