Marvel are done with origin movies and they won't be doing any more from Doctor Strange onwards. So said Latino Review.

According to the trailer we've already seen, it demonstrably IS an origin movie. So there.
Would It Have Been Any Good?
Other characters arriving fully formed in the MCU is a good idea, but Doctor Strange has a lot more than his own introduction to deal with. He has to also bring in the cosmic side of the Marvel universe, and that in itself needs an origin to explain exactly where it's come from.
So no, this actually was the right time to do an origin story.
