6. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is considered one of the greatest and most influential horror films that set a new standard for slasher films to come. Unsurprisingly, the film's Ed Gein-inspired graphic and disturbing content resulted in quite an uproar and a wave of controversy. Starting with a group of friends who find themselves visiting an old homestead, they eventually fall victim to Leatherface and his cannibalistic family. Despite all the brutal murders and Leatherface's disturbing family dynamics, the film is actually quite tame with very little in terms of gore, blood, and sex. It is testament to the film's quality that it could be incredibly terrifying without relying heavily on blood and gore, and still courted massive amounts of notoriety. Just to demonstrate film's influence and longevity, it's been over forty years since the film was released and there is still enough demand for the franchise to be continuing.
