12 Controversial Horror Movies That Shocked The World

5. Audition

The Japanese seem to specialise in psychological horror films that screw with your mind whilst scaring the living daylights out you. This specific brand of horror is best exemplified in the 1999 film, Audition. The premise starts off like an innocent love story with a widower trying to get back into the dating world by hosting auditions for dates and he becomes enthralled with a shy and mysterious girl. But as they begin dating, the widower soon finds himself involved with someone who is seriously disturbed and has a messed up perception of men. The film proceeds to go down a sick and sadistic route when the girl subjects the widower to one of the most drawn out and unbearable torture scenes ever seen before capping everything off with a sequence involving a dog bowl and vomit. If you're going to watch this, be sure to bring a vomit bag and steel yourself for the most seriously messed up hour and a half of your life.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
